Can you give us a little background on Portage & Main Press?
Portage & Main Press is an educational publisher. We work with educators from across Canada, (and also writers, illustrators, graphic designers, and printers) and sell our books throughout North America. Our imprint, HighWater Press, focuses on Indigenous literature – many of these titles are published to critical acclaim. They are of interest to the general public as well as considered valuable resources for teachers and librarians. Students love our graphic novels!
You’ve worked with Pauline and 26 Projects on a few occasions now, ranging from photography work to a new website skin, logo and e-newsletter. Can you speak to what your working relationship has been like?
Pauline gets what we do, but her fresh perspective helps us to see PMP in new ways so we present as contemporary and relevant. Her beautiful photographs are used in promotional materials and on our website; author photos are on the back cover of books and the more informal author shots are used in all kinds of ways. 26 Projects also created a hand-illustrated typeface for PMP’s website as well as other stand-out features. Using those same features, Pauline and her team created our e-newsletter: it’s really effective in keeping our customers informed and we love the clean design.
